“Emily in Paris” outfits: farce or must-follow?

The fourth season of Emily in Paris can be called one of the most awaited premieres of the summer. Romantic adventures and dilemmas, career challenges, and new style of characters. The lives of the main heroines become extremely exciting.

The directors divided the season into two parts. The first five episodes were released on August 15, and the second five - on September 12. However, a non-standard release is not a big deal compared to the resonance of Emily's and her friends' outfits! Social networks are full of both enthusiastic and outraged comments about the fact that the looks of the series have turned into farce, kitsch, and grotesque (although our team adores some of them).

In order not to be baseless and to clarify the situation, we invited popular stylists Alice Piatkova and Julia Gruban to share their expert views on the style from “Emily in Paris”.

“As a stylist, I believe that the costume designers have done the most important thing - the images of Emily and her friends are widely discussed and have left almost no one indifferent. Obviously, the girls' outfits exaggeratedly reflect the character of each of them, but should we consider them as a pure coin and blindly copy? Of course not!

First of all, it's hard to imagine how big a wardrobe should be to appear in such brightly printed outfits every day. Plus, only a few people will feel really comfortable in such a “masquerade” clothing.

Finally, most of the images are simply inconvenient for everyday life. So, in conclusion: you can be inspired by the impeccable aesthetics of the series, but do not forget that it is just an ARTWORK.

Let me remind you that Emily is an American who came to “conquer” Paris, so her images have nothing in common with the style of Parisians, as well as most Americans. All you can do is take into account some stylistic techniques and some elements of the showed looks, but do not try to recreate those bizarre outfits in real life”, says Alice Piatkova.

“In the looks from the series, the most iconic fashion brands were represented: from Jacquemus and Marni to Miu Miu and Schiaparelli, as well as well-known Ukrainian brands: Ruslan Baginskiy, GUNIA Project, J'amemme. However, when it comes to the outfits itself, Emily's style has nothing in common with the style of Parisian women.)

The series' designer Patricia Field loves to hyperbolize everything. She takes all the trends at once and embodies them in one look. She likes to work with bright colors and luxury brands. Nevertheless, the outfits are not meant to be "realistic". You should treat them as art and be inspired by interesting, unusual, caricatured combinations. I mean, who in their 20s would wear colorful tweed suits and massive out-of-trend jewelry?

Carrie Bradshaw's looks, by the way, were also created by Patricia, so here we can see the similarities and understand that they all are more theatrical.)

It is very, very interesting to watch the series with such looks, it feels like you are watching a different world, where everything is so bright, romantic and fun, don't you agree?)

I was really interested and excited. So, watch, enjoy the beautiful picture, but remember that style from the series are not meant to be followed”, commented Julia Gruban.

We are grateful to the experts for sharing their professional views on the style of the characters from “Emily in Paris”. To summarize, we can say that watching bright and unusual stylistic solutions is always interesting. It develops curiosity, encourages us to experiment and search for new combinations in our wardrobe. However, it's worth remembering that some TV outfits are not suitable for real life; they are just means of attracting attention and hyperbolization.

What is definitely timeless and always appropriate is our transforming jewelry, which can be worn in a new way every day thanks to its functional design. Choose the perfect tool to express your engineering talent and creativity.
